From state-led narratives of peaceful coexistence to radical online calls for a new Reconquista, the legacy of Al-Andalus is being reshaped and contested in unprecedented ways. The Digital Al Andalus project uncovers how online communities—from far-right movements to violent Islamist groups and other groups—manipulate the past to fuel contemporary conflicts. By analysing memes, video games, propaganda, and digital debates, this project reveals the hidden battle over historical memory and its impact on identity, radicalisation, and online culture wars.
